The best way to achieve a high gloss, or “wet look” is to apply an acrylic. Expect that an acrylic will last anywhere from 6 months up until about 2 years, but it is the only true way to achieve a nice shine. There are several types of acrylics out there but the best type of acrylic to go with is a 100% acrylic laquer. Solvent based is better than water based – solvent based acrylics will bond better, last longer, and look better than any other type of acrylic or acrylic blend sealer. There are few solvent based acrylic manufacturers on the market simply because they are more expensive to manufacture and if they aren’t designed to be low VOC, could have a higher VOC.
