Pool decks are constantly exposed to water, chemicals, abrasion, and changes in weather and temperature which can cause staining, spalling, pitting and cracks. The best way to protect a pool deck and keep it looking new is by applying a sealer or coating to the surface.
Penetrating Pool Deck Sealers
The best type of sealer to use on a pool deck is a silane-siloxane blend water repellent sealer. Silane-siloxane sealers penetrate into the concrete and work to repel surface water and other liquids. By doing so, silane-siloxane blend sealers will protect the surface from stains, spalling and pitting.
Densifiers can be used (such as sodium and lithium silicates) however, a Densifier should only be used if you are looking to increase the strength of the concrete. Densifiers do NOT have repellency properties and can’t stop the absorption of surface water. If you use a denifier, use a Densifier first and apply a silane-siloxane 3-5 days later.

Pool Deck Coatings
Pool deck coatings are used to protect and enhance the surface of the concrete. Acrylic coatings are the most popular type of coating to use because of their resistance to water and their breathability. There is however a new trend in coatings that is quickly taking the market by storm: Siloxane infused Acrylic coatings.
Concrete Décor Magazine recently published an article about Foundation Armor’s AX25 siloxane infused acrylic.
“After one and a half years of researching and development, Foundation Armor has released the Armor AX25 Coating. The new Armor AX25 is a siloxane modified methyl methacrylate coating that can be applied to freshly poured and fully cured concrete surfaces. It offers superior resistance to de-icing road salts, pool decks with salt water pool systems, rain, sleet and snow.
The Armor AX25 is a non-yellowing, high gloss, siloxane-modified acrylic concrete coating providing resistance to pool water and road salts. The Armor AX25 also offers superior resistance to weather and temperature fluctuations. The new coating meets ASTM C-1315, Type 1, Class A & B standards.”
